This is a follow up to my earlier post about “ten things I will like to do before I am
twenty-eight”. The writer is
however not paying any regard to order of appearance; they are just things here
and there. I am not the best of guys, certainly not; but I guess everyone has dreams.
Hope you get inspired too. Happy reading!
Ten
things I will like to do before I am twenty-eight
1.
Initiate/undertake a
community development project: This
point is dear to my heart. Society is full of countless individuals who are
employees of the civil service. They do not belong in the superior or executive
class; they do the menial jobs and society’s survival somehow rests on them.
The traffic warden who stands for long hours to direct road users, the cleaners
reducing dirt on our streets and the sanitation officials who clear huge pile
of refuse. The initiative is to reward these individuals and show appreciation,
complementing government’s meager salaries. Distribution of food items, soaps,
and a little amount isn’t a bad idea. It’s a little project.
2.
Read the whole bible twice: shocked? Don’t be if you are. The last time I
started out on this saintly venture I got stuck somewhere between Leviticus and
Numbers (chuckles). I must confess the desire is noble but the odds stand
squarely against me. This is not some vain attempt to add to the number of
those who have (although I will); I want to grow in my knowledge and
understanding. The hope of finishing gives me this exhilarating feeling.
3.
Interstate driving: don’t get me wrong; I am a good driver with a year
and half driving experience under my belt. Sadly, I have only honed my driving
skills within town. I will love to put my driving skill to a test by driving
from one state to another and even to another country as long as there is a
route.
4.
Travel out of the
country: yes, travel out. Who doesn’t
want to? I know what experience I have garnered from traveling to a number of
states within the country; the thrill, the orientation and the mentality change
has been priceless to me. How much more stepping out of the shores of this
great nation for a tour to countries like UK, US, Ethiopia, South Africa,
France and of course to Rwanda where I have lovely friends. I can’t wait to
write down every detail of such venture. Travelling is fun.
5.
Get married: am I kidding you? Yes I am, but seriously. This may
come as a shock to a lot of my readers, considering the uncertainty that
pervades virtually every nook and cranny of our country: school, youth service,
and job. I have always imagined that a young family is arguably the most
suitable; where there is an aura of exuberance, where we all grow up together
in unison. Life has a way of shipping “things” to us, but yes, I want to get
married before 28.
6.
Publish a book,
material or an article: writing is
my love though not my first. You can imagine the satisfaction a writer gets
when he knows a lot of people out there are gobbling his piece. But more than
satisfaction, I want to change unhealthy ideas, inspire and convey truth. I
have my eyes on our national dailies, exotic and Christian magazines. Finally a
book authored by me and published by someone who believes in my works, is a
dream come true.
7.
Visit a tourist site: I have to admit; only the TV screens and print media
have given me the slightest idea of how these sites look like. There are lot of
places around that one can pass out time with friends and family; places like
Yankari Game Reserve in Bauchi State, Tinapa Resort in Calabar, Peru’s Machu
Picchu or the Bellagio Fountains in Las Vegas. It will be awesome to get out of
this “well” and ride on the tide of this exciting venture. Here I come!
8.
Read about fifty
books or more: recently,
I have developed an insatiable longing to “consume” book materials which are
predominantly Christian fictions; I have added some law books and other books
here and there which do not belong to any group in particular. This desire is
born out of the experiences and enlightenment I have acquired in recent years
from studying and reading; my grammar has had its fair share of this noble
venture. This point may appear absurd when viewed from both angles: small,
considering the number of years I have until then and large, considering the
number of books. I just want to KNOW!
9.
Win an award for
writing: this is a
tough one; the possibility of not wining is even greater and I might be put on
notice by some of my unknown readers about my inability not to realize this
dream. But I guess it’s better than not dreaming at all. I will be overly
thrilled to have this as one of my many accolades in the near future. Note that
this feat must not necessarily be achieved in a grander level of writing, with
all the euphoria, publicity and cash involved. An award for good writing at any
level will do.
10.
Growing stronger: well, this is the last but certainly not the least.
It’s not like this is something I have not done and that’s why it has found its
way into this ‘to-do-list’. The desire to grow in faith and understanding has
been present long enough. Don’t get me wrong, I have had my own fair share of
pitfalls and short comings but I’ve always longed to see myself ascend with
consistency, faith, trust and hope unto the plain of Christ’s grace and beauty.
As it goes….”are constantly transfigured into his very own image in ever
increasing splendour…”2 cor 3:18(AMP). Deeper!
We are in the spirit. I'd want to marry young tooo. Travel the world, go on a road trip (perhaps a safari or a missionary expedition). Have plenty children (like 7 or 8).
