Looking back
to 2013, here is a list of remarkable books that have informed as well as
transformed me. Enjoy!
1. Fatal convictions: the authenticity of our faith is put
to the test, stretched to its limits. An intriguing storyline of Alex Madison;
a lawyer and a pastor who must glide against the tide to defend a Muslim
accused of instigating honour killings. Will his saintly congregation go to
sleep and risk losing their pastor?
2. Self-incrimination: this is another classic by renowned writer Randy Singer; after reading
fatal convictions, I couldn’t wait at the prospect of reading another book his.
Tara Bannister is facing trial for murder, shooting her abusive father, or did
she? Leslie her lawyer must pull a stunt to save this recalcitrant teen from
going to jail and…this book is a ‘must read ‘legal thriller with all the
ingredients to keep your fingers glued to it.
3. Every Man’s Battle (how to win the war on sexual temptation one victory at a time): I have
read this book this twice! Flipping through the pages of this book, I discover
a realistic account of feeble men who face sexual temptations daily. They
aren’t heroes who have moved unscathed in the battle against purity but they
are winning daily. Stephen Arterburn, Fred Stoeker and Mike Yorkey have done an
awesome job on this one. Every Man’s battle also contains practical steps at
the tail end of the book and also a special section for women. In a generation
where sexual purity is a thing of the past, the book never fails for a moment
to project God’s unfallen standards. I strongly recommend this one!
4. Boy meets girl:
talk about love, relationship and courtship; this book gives sound biblical
principles with daily love stories to beautify his narration and piece. Joshua
Harris challenges his readers to maintain balance between our feelings and
reality. I sincerely haven’t read a book on relationship that beats this one.
“Boy meets girl” have been included in our school fellowship library.
5.
Redeeming love: how far can
love go? When do we call it quit? What is the test of reasonableness? Rivers’ redeeming love is forged from the
unbelievable fourteen chapter book of Hosea. We know the story. A young damsel
must come to terms with a love that is unrelenting and undying. Francine Rivers’
piece is adorable and every bit transforming.
6.
The smell of sin: I am a proud owner of this book
with all the “usufructuary” right courtesy the NIFES book project. Few books
unravel the truth about sin as this one does. Don Evert says “there is more to
sin than ‘missing the mark’. He added, “When I am tempted to sin, I am never
considering whether or not to be naughty I am contemplating insulting my dear
father. A must read!
7. Learning about evangelism: looking for a book on evangelism? This is an absolute
classic. This book moves away from the conventional: ‘say the right thing’, ‘persuade by all means necessary and pretend you
have all the answers’. The most striking statement in this book is this;
“evangelism is a process”. Looking back on how I have struggled with this, I seem
to have a new zest to plunge into this sacred venture of soul wining. Mike
Hencher skillfully crafts a manual for 21st century witnessing.
Thanks to the NIFES book project which has added to my library such a
‘revelation’.
Information
about the above mentioned books are not satisfactory to say the least, I think
you should get your hands on them for detailed study and truth. More books
coming in 2014.
