HALL OF FAITH—SARAH

“By faith, barren Sarah was able to become pregnant, old woman as she was at the time, because she believed the One who made a promise would do what he said. That’s how it happened that from one man’s dead and shriveled loins there are now people numbering into the millions”.
                                                                                                            Hebrews 11:11-12 MSG
She carries with her a reputation akin to that of her husband, Abraham. If Abraham is the undisputed Father of Faith, Sarah is the Mother of Faith. She and Abraham are joint recipients of a promised son.
Sarah did laugh at the absurdity of the promise—a son when she was well over the age of child birth, and not without compelling reasons to so do (Gen 18:12). She knew all the odds were squarely against her and she caved in to unbelief, initially. Just as we would scoff at a rapid realisation of our big dreams or project, or a career thrust. We are prone to do that because we’re armed with our own inhibitions and limitations, just like Sarah.
But the story does not end there.
Sarah did overcome unbelief through faith—a simple trust in God. “…she believed the One who made a promise would do what he said (Hebrews 11:11). That was the only way she could have received strength to deliver, defying natural inhibitions or obstacles.
We are often surrounded by real and/or imagined difficulties; one that threatens our goals—things we know God is calling us to achieve. Let the character of Sarah remind you about God’s ability to conquer not in spite of the difficulty but through it. When God wants to do a thing, he does that thing whatever difficulties might stand in the way of its fulfillment.
We must look to the one who has promised, not to the success rate or chances of success of what was promised.

Only faith can attain the unattainable, surmount the insurmountable, and achieve the impossible.
